6 Surprising Things That Don’t Belong in the Bathroom

If you’re like numerous people, you certainly spend an average of 30 minutes to an hour in your bathroom every day. You’d want to have everything you need close at hand while you conduct your morning and evening bathroom routines. Yet, what if some of the items you’re keeping in the bathroom don’t belong there? By putting some objects in the incorrect position, you might not just be cluttering up your bathroom space but also increase the chances of getting sick from bacteria and mold. To save you from both mess and these risks, below is a list of items you should not keep in your bathroom.

1.       Towels and Bathrobe

Several individuals put their towels in a bathroom cabinet or shelf and hang their bathrobe there, too. However, hanging fabrics in a warm, moist environment such as a bathroom might be risky to your health. Damp towels will absorb germs and bacteria, which will then move to your skin when you utilize them. The same principles apply to your bathrobe. Ideally, attempt to keep your clean towels in a linen closet outside the bathroom and store your bathrobe in the bedroom.

2.       Your Toothbrushes

Most people continue to put their toothbrushes by the bathroom sink. The primary problem is that every time you flush your toilet, bacteria get spread into the air and may settle on your toothbrush – which then goes in your mouth. When you think about it, it isn’t good. Experts recommend keeping your toothbrush inside a drawer or cabinet, ideally. And close your toilet lid before you flush – every time!

3.       Cosmetics and Nail Polish

You’re likely storing your makeup and nail polish in the bathroom, but that may not be the best home for them. Cosmetic products will start to deteriorate in damp environments, and cosmetic sponges can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Nail polish will also dry up faster if subjected to temperature swings and humidity. For that reason, it’s suggested to store makeup and nail polish in a cool, dry spot, like a bedroom drawer, for instance.

4.       Your Jewelry

Silver jewelry cannot prosper in moist environments and can tarnish instantly when exposed to humid air like that in a bathroom. Even though gold won’t tarnish, it’s still a good idea to place your jewelry someplace that is both cool and dry all the time. Consider placing your jewelry in a box in a bedroom drawer or your closet.

5.       Prescription Medication

It’s a little surprising how many individuals have a medicine cabinet in the bathroom, but you may need to think twice about it. Many medications must be kept dry in order to be effective and not expire too fast. Since the bathroom can be humid frequently, your medication may go bad or lose effectiveness right away. Putting your medications in a kitchen cabinet, out of the reach of small children, is your best option.

6.       Books, Photographs, and Art

Paper and photographs do not fare well in the humid air. Paper will absorb moisture, sooner or later growing mold if not stored safely. And this moisture will damage your pictures, making them swell and curl prematurely. A humid bathroom will result in permanent damage to both photos and books, so storing them somewhere safe in your home is a good idea.
